5 Reasons Why You Should Take Maternity Photos

Why is it important to take maternity portraits? I’ve heard mixed reviews on this subject over the years from friends and family. If you’ve heard the same mixed feedback, stick around because I’m sharing my top 5 reasons why you should take maternity photos.

1. Celebrate your pregnancy journey.

Every pregnancy is different and you may not have loved every phase of it, especially in the first few months. However, remembering and celebrating this special time is so important. Maybe this is your first pregnancy, which comes with designing the nursery, a baby shower, and many life changes. Maybe this pregnancy was a long time in the making and you deserve to celebrate this milestone. Or you’re prepping a sibling for the new baby and photography is a great way to celebrate this change as a family. As well as capture the special bond between you and your first tiny one. Regardless, you will never regret having this time documented.

2. The anticipation and joy you feel should be remembered.

From the moment you saw the confirmation that you are pregnant you’ve been dreaming about meeting your sweet baby. You’re currently tracking the growth (this week it’s the size of an avocado!), and you’re researching what to expect. You’ve been discussing the characteristics and skills you hope your baby has with your partner. Photos have a way of taking you back to a moment in time. These nine months will go by in a whirlwind and the anticipation is worth remembering.

3. Believe it or not, you are going to miss your bump.

Pregnancy can be uncomfortable. But those little kicks are one of the most amazing things ever. Growing a tiny human is a life-changing experience. Being able to look back at your bump is a huge reason why you should take maternity photos. They say mothers carry every baby a bit differently,

4. Everyone talks about the pregnancy glow but have you felt it?

People will tell you that you are glowing or pregnancy suits you, but chances are you don’t feel it as you go through the motions of your everyday life. Maternity sessions are a great excuse to put on a pretty dress and get your hair and makeup done. There is zero chance that you leave your session not feeling like a pregnancy goddess!

5. Capture the bond between you and your partner.

My favorite part of maternity sessions is capturing the interaction of couples as they celebrate the new life they have created. Your maternity session gives you the chance to slow down and reflect on all that you have been through as a couple. Everything that has brought you to this point and helps mark your transition into parenthood. At the end of every session, I ask my expecting parents to take a moment to say a prayer or set a good intention for this next chapter together. It is my goal, that the feeling in this moment comes back every time you reflect on these maternity portraits.
