My Top 10 Favorite Newborn Items

While everyone has different needs and circumstances, I thought it would be helpful to share the 10 items I would buy again as an expecting mother. The months leading up to your newborn’s arrival can be stressful and overwhelming. I remember consulting multiple blog posts and shopping recommendations and wondering if I would actually use the items they recommended.

Top 10 Favorite Newborn items

These are my top 10 favorite newborn items

1. Owlet Smart Sock

This was one of those expensive items that we went back and forth on whether or not we actually should purchase. In the end, it was honestly such a relief to know some of her sleep stats. As new parents, everything is new and uncertain, plus you’re exhausted. The Owlet Dream Sock helped give us peace of mind to rest too.

2. Lovevery Play Gym

We used this Play Gym by Lovevery all the time. I loved that it gave me activities to do with my baby to help her development. There was room for it to grow with her entire first year of life. I 100% recommend this play mat and the monthly kits.

3. Hatch Sound Machine

I’m a big fan of items that will grow with baby and I judged a lot of the items I purchased on this criteria. The Hatch Sound Machine definitely met that criteria. You can program multiple sounds or light levels that are accessible with a simple touch. This comes in handy for late-night feedings when you need a little light. It will also schedule sounds as a reminder for a nap or bedtime or to let your big kid know it’s time to get out of bed.

4. Halo Sleep Sack

A trusted sleep sack as a new parent is a must. There are multiple types on the market and I tried my fair share but the Halo Sleep Sack was the one that worked the best for my family.

5. Infant Optics Baby Monitor

This Infant Optics Baby Monitor has the clearest biggest monitor screen to clearly see your baby. I love that the camera is easily turned to clearly view your baby and their surroundings. Best of all, this monitor is not connected to wifi so you’ll never worry about someone hacking into your monitor!

6. Diaper Genie

This is a controversial one. I remember reading multiple posts that told you not to waste your money on a diaper genie but I highly disagree. My daughter is 2 and we still use our Diaper Genie daily, plus friends and family with children come over and there’s no guessing what they should do with diapers. If you’re living in a home that takes the trash out once a week, absolutely invest in a diaper genie. Save your time and your nose.

7. Breast Feeding Pillow

I’m sure many moms are familiar with the Boppy Nursing Pillow but that option didn’t work well for me. I preferred the My Breast Friend Pillow option as it accommodate the nursing position that we preferred in a way that felt safer for my daughter. Plus it had little pockets that could store a few nursing essentials!

8. aden + anais Burby Bib

Speaking of nursing, burp cloths are one of those things that don’t feel like you’d need anything special. But let me tell you, you’ll spend a lot of time with them. These ones from aden + anais were my favorites. They were a thicker material so they could be flipped and used longer but they were still soft for touching delicate baby skin. These also double as bibs too for dull use. This is an item you may not have thought too much about but that’s exactly why it had to make my top 10 favorite newborn items.

9. Baby Wrap

I honestly only used my baby wrap a few times, I had my daughter at the beginning of COVID so didn’t leave the house and my husband was always available if I need to be hands-free. But I did really enjoy it the couple of times I used it. I also think the second time around this will be a lifesaver!

The Boba Wrap shown is the one I have but there are multiple options on the market, make sure to research what will work best and be safe for you and your baby.

10. Pack ‘n-Play

We used our Graco Pack ‘n-Play a lot during those first few months. Not in the traditional sense of traveling but to have a second diaper changing area with all the essentials. It was a real lifesaver at times too!

Top 10 Favorite Newborn Items – Bonus Pick

NoseFrida

When I ask my husband what his favorite newborn item was, the NoseFrida is his pick. It’s definitely a valid choice to make my top 10 favorite newborn items though. It’s much smaller than the traditional option and the clear tube visibly shows if you addressed the problem. It sounds gross but it’s actually not. Trust me you will handle much more disgusting things than this.

Well here is my list, do you agree with my top ten favorite newborn items? Is there anything I missed? Is there anything you disagree with? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
