With fall right around the corner, you are probably thinking about scheduling your family portraits. But what type of photography session should you book? Mini-Session vs. Full Session, here are the four key things to think about before booking your session.
4 Key Differences Between Mini-Sessions vs. Full Sessions
1. Session Length
This may seem like an obvious one. Mini sessions are shorter typically 10-15 minutes depending upon the photographer and full sessions are usually 60+ minutes. Keeping your goal in mind will help you to determine which option is best for your family. If you just want one to two great photos to send out a holiday card, go with a mini. If you would like more variety in your gallery, with individuals of each child, a couple of you and your partner, and some that show your family’s personality, you’ll want a full session.
2. Session Location
If you have a special location in mind that means something to your family or you’d prefer an in-home lifestyle session, a full session is for you. Typically, mini session location is pre-determined by the photographer.
3. Session Price
Full sessions can have a larger price tag but offer more variety in your gallery, one-on-one session planning with your photographer, client closet options, and more time for your family to relax and have fun in front of the camera. Where mini sessions are a great option to save money and get that one nice portrait of your family.
4. Session Pace
This might be the most important thing to take into consideration when thinking Mini-Sessions vs. Full Sessions. Because mini sessions are so short, the pace will be very quick. Your photographer will have a 1-3 set poses and prompts ready to go. However, a full session is a better option if you have shy kiddos. It gives everyone the chance to relax and feel comfortable in front of the camera. The photographer can judge what to capture next based on the needs of your family. If your youngest needs a break, that’s fine we can get a few of mom and dad or big brother/sister.
