As a Canton, Ohio newborn photographer, one of the most frequently asked questions from pregnant moms is when to book a newborn photo shoot! There are a couple of things to take into consideration when booking newborn portraits. This post aims to explain what you should consider before booking, when to book and why it’s important to book early.
What to Consider Before Booking Newborn Portraits
First of all, before you think about when to book, you need to make sure you have found the right photographer for you. I recommend searching for a few photographers in your area early on in your pregnancy. Many photographers book 3-4 months in advance, so you don’t want to wait too long to reach out to your favorite photographer.
Optimal Time to Book Newborn Photos
With the above in mind, researching photographers and photography styles will give you a better idea of when you will need to book newborn photos. If you like a more posed and styled newborn session, it is more important to book early to ensure your photographer can create special poses and keep your baby safe. If you’re looking for a more natural, unposed newborn style this is less crucial. However, the best time to get the sweet, sleepy portraits is still in the first 2 weeks after birth. You’ll want to make sure you book your photographer 3-4 months before this window at the minimum.
Wondering how you’re supposed to know how to book a date when babies are so unpredictable? We won’t actually set a date, instead, we will plan based on your due date then once the baby arrives we will schedule a date within the optimal window.
So When Should you Book a Newborn Photo Shoot?
The best time to book your newborn’s photo shoot is after your 12 weeks appointment. This is the end of the first trimester and usually when you start to get a little more energy. Knocking this off the ever-growing to-do list early not only alleviates unnecessary stress later, it also allows time to schedule a maternity session too. Once your baby arrives, you can send me a message and relax soaking up all those newborn snuggles that I promise you won’t want to miss!
